Feeding
Our dolphins are very important to us. That is why we buy fish of the highest quality to feed them. Every month approximately 40,000 pounds of fish are imported from Canada where they are caught, screened, frozen and packed. After arriving, they are stored in our freezing chamber.
Each dolphin has a different diet. Our personnel leave the necessary portions according to each diet in a refrigerated chamber to defrost overnight. The following morning, fish are sorted, cleaned and screened, according to the following criteria:
- Fish should not present any marks or bruises of any kind.
- Fish should not have any cuts or traces of blood.
- Fish should not have any missing parts.
- Fish that have been refrigerated outside or in freezer areas should be discarded.
- If the freezing chamber heats for any reason, all fish will be discarded.
- Fish that have had contact with a non-sanitized surface will be discarded.

Based on the customized diet, fish house personnel carefully prepare each dolphin's daily intake, placing it in a bucket and storing it in the refrigerated chamber. Our dolphins eat an average of 20 pounds of fish per day, each. Before every session, trainers come to the fish house to collect a portion of the dolphin's daily intake in a different bucket. Every dolphin has its own set of buckets.
